The Workshop Behind Lemaire’s Card Holder, Minus the Logo Il Bussetto Magnetic Card Holder

If you like quiet luxury, you have probably seen Lemaire’s card holder. Seamless, palm-sized, a single smooth piece of leather. I kept it in a wishlist for a long time. Then I learned that another pair of hands makes it.

Il Bussetto is a small Italian leather workshop. The card holder Lemaire sells carries the name “IL BUSSETTO FOR LEMAIRE.” In other words, the source of that Lemaire feeling is made right here. Add the logo and the price climbs. Remove it and only the object remains. This is a story about the object.

No Stitches

There are no stitches on an Il Bussetto card holder. The leather is shaped over a wooden form with water and finished without any sewing, a traditional method that leaves no seams and no visible construction lines. In the hand it has a density that a stitched wallet does not. It feels like one piece of leather that simply became a shape.

The leather is vegetable-tanned Cuoio, hand-painted rather than chemically coated. New, it is a little stiff, and the color is honest.

It Becomes Yours

The real story of this leather is in time. Vegetable-tanned leather deepens slowly with skin oil and sunlight. The edges gain a shine first, and after about half a year the initial stiffness relaxes into your hand. It is not finished at the factory. It is finished by its owner. That is a philosophy Off-Plan has always favored.

The magnetic flap holds just enough. It fits around 20 cards, but a card case always looks best kept a little empty.

Specs and Price

It measures 10 by 5.5 by 1 cm and holds roughly 20 cards. Twelve colors are offered, and the low-chroma tones with names like Desert and Forest Green feel most true to the brand. The official price is around $92, and in Korea it typically sells near KRW 160,000, clearly below the Lemaire-branded version.

Editor’s Note

Honestly, KRW 160,000 for a card case is not small. But the math is different here. It is not something you replace each year. It is something that gets better each year. If you wanted the Lemaire mood but hesitated at the logo tax, the answer is already written in the name. IL BUSSETTO FOR LEMAIRE. Just delete the last two words.
